Guaranteed Transmission Service began as an idea in a one-car garage where John and Terri Johnson lived over 25 years ago in Lafayette, Indiana. John and Terri built their idea 3 years later at 3742 State Road 38 East. At that time, Guaranteed Transmission Service had 5 service bays, all specifically for transmission and driveline maintenance and repair. The founding principles of Guaranteed Transmission Service were performing quality work at honest prices, never selling our customers anything they don’t need, and giving them a complete service experience.
Over time, the word spread about our company. John, Terri, and the family lived next to the business for many years and developed many close relationships with customers. In 1986, Guaranteed Transmission Service broke ground on a new facility. Two years later the continuing support and growth led to the expansion of a new 14 bay service center. Thanks to our customers Guaranteed Transmission Service became the largest independent transmission service facility in the state.
Today Guaranteed Transmission Service remains one of the largest independent repair centers in the state, still specializing in what we do best, transmissions!
Clint Johnson, one of John and Terri’s sons, has taken over the leading role at Guaranteed Transmission Service. Growing up Clint was always around the shop, working after school and in the summer, doing anything from sweeping floors to tearing down and eventually rebuilding transmissions. As time passed, Clint’s interest and love for the business grew. He is dedicated to upholding the founding principles Guaranteed Transmission Service was built on.
Guaranteed Transmission Service has been in business more than 25 years now, and still the majority of our customer base is from referrals. The continued success is due to the relationships we have with our customers. Our reputation of honesty, quality work, and customer service has grown because of the relationships we built and the relationships we continue to build.

Meet the Guaranteed Transmission Staff
Terri Johnson
Terri Johnson is co-founder and President of Guaranteed Transmission Service. Terri graduated from Rossville High School in 1975 and moved to Lafayette, IN that same year. She remains active in the business today as the primary bookkeeper and financial manager. When not at work, she enjoys line dancing, spoiling her grandchildren and taking trips.
Clint Johnson
Clint Johnson is Terri’s son and has 16 years of experience in the auto and transmission industry. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1995 and attended Ivy Tech State College where he received an Associate’s Degree in General Automotive. Clint is an ASE certified technician and is our diagnostician. He enjoys spending time with his 2 boys, racing cars and cleaning.
Curt Craig
Curt Craig is our parts clerk and shuttle driver. He is ASE certified in air conditioning and has 20 years experience in the automotive industry. Curt has 2 children and enjoys golfing or spending time with his family when he’s not at the shop.
Jeremy Cross
Jeremy Cross is a Master Technician, has 8 ASE certifications, is IMACA certified and has 13 years experience in the automotive industry. He went to Frontier Central High School and then to Ivy Tech. He is happily married and has 2 beautiful children. When he is not working on cars, you can find him spending time with his family and dogs and writing poetry and short stories.
Dave Kingery
David Kingery is a technician and our builder. He graduated from Lincoln Technical Institute and is certified in transmissions and transaxles of both manual transmissions and drivetrain. He has over 31 years experience in the automotive industry. He is the proud father of 3 and enjoys fishing and snowmobiling.
Tracy Schimmel
Tracy Schimmel is from Lafayette, IN and graduated from McCutcheon High School in 1992. He has 19 years of experience and has been with Guaranteed Transmission for13 years as an R&R and underbody repair technician. Tracy enjoys spending time with his kids and going on long Harley rides.
Mick Siemers
Mick Siemers is our General Manager. He is a graduate of Central Catholic High School and attended Purdue University. After hours you can find him spending time with his son, coaching youth sports and rescuing abandoned or injured animals.
